Bio
Thamara Mallawaarachchi is a Civil Engineer and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. She obtained her Diploma with Distinction and Masters in Sanitary Engineering from the IHE, Netherlands. She is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Institution of Engineers (Sri Lanka) and a member of the Institution of Engineers (UK). At present she is working as the Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Professional Services) of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), a premier Local Authority in Sri Lanka.
She has a long and extensive experience in giving leadership to several International funded projects with ADB, EU, DFID,UNDP,UNCHS, UNCRD, IDRC and GTZ focused on environmental management, community development, urban poverty reduction and new management techniques such as continuous improvement, bench marking with special focus on city services etc. She also served as an International Asian Coordinator of the PROACT project which was initiated by CITYNET to strengthen the Euro - Asian network and to draw experiences of European cities to the benefit of solving emerging urban problems of Asian cities. She is the head of the GIS unit of the Colombo Municipal Council .
