Towards Effective Land Administration in India: Potential Benefits, Road Map & Challenges

The exchange forum is designed in association with Department of Land Resources, Government of India. The Forum will bring forward the effective and efficient ways of Land Administration in India. It would be attended by more than 70 State level officials, who will discuss and deliberate on various challenges and opportunities of Land Administration in India. The sessions would cover the following:

· Computerization of Property Records

The session would give a brief overview of:

• Digitisation of cadastral maps
• Data entry and entry into the national code
• Conversion of textual data into the digitised format
• Integration of textual and spatial data
• Problems and challenges in implementing the project

· Survey & Preparation of Maps Using Modern Technologies

The session would give a brief overview of:

• Surveying of fresh cadastre
• Re-surveys and updating of survey and settlement records
• Updating ground control network and ground-truthing

· Computerization of the Registration Process
The session would give a brief overview of:

• Computerisation of the Sub-Registrar’s Office
• Data entry of property valuation
• Data entry of legacy encumbrance data
• Scanning and preservation of old documents
• Inter-connectivity between the Registration and Revenue Offices
• Technology for faster retrieval of data from data centre to tehsil level

· Training and Capacity Building

The session would give a brief overview of:

• Integration of all data into a seamless system
• Need for building capacity at various levels for effective maintenance and implementation of the programme
