Abstract
Assessment of tree outside forests in Andhra Pradesh
The environmental services provided by trees outside forests (ToF), in rural and urban areas, include protection of soil and water resources, the conservation of biological diversity, support to agricultural productivity and sustainability. The ToF means the trees available outside the notified forests. In India, about 80percent of the requirements of the wood-based industries are met from ToF resources. Any resource that is to be managed needs to be assessed in the first place. The Assessment of ToF is taken up using CARTOSAT-1 data of 2.5 meters resolution for the first time in the country. The data required for the 13 districts are covered in 456 scenes. The interpretation is made from the orthorectified cartosat data. This paper presents tentative results.
