GIS – A TOOL FOR SUSTAINABLE MINING
Sustainable development integrates economic, environmental and social consideration in order to improve the lives of the current generation and ensure that future generation will have adequate resources and opportunities. Sustainable mining is not a new approach or concept in resource consumption. It is a holistic approach for dealing with a complex, inter linked set of factors that determine the net social worth of a mining project. During pre-mining stage, syn mining stage and post mining stage, geospatial technology can be deployed which will facilitate the responsible mining with optimal efficiency. It is a comprehensive inter-operatable technique specially designed to compile, process and analyse and archive volume of inter-disciplinary data viz. exploration, land management, mining operation and environmental management. This tool will be useful for sustainable mining programme.
